Anneke's story:
Anneke's daughter shared a part of Anneke's story. She wrote: “My mother, Anneke, is a spunky, independent lady in her 80s, who has a continent-spanning life story and deserves a big global hug. She was born in the Netherlands and lived through the Second World War. She immigrated to Canada in the 1950s on a big ship that had been built for transporting soldiers. Despite cross cultural barriers in her new homeland, Anneke got a job in a bank and met her husband-to-be through a fellow employee. She and my dad had four children and worked hard all their lives, as many immigrants do. Today, she lives independently in a downtown condominium, still driving her own vehicle, and she gets on the computer every day. Her interests include music, stamp and coin collecting, and travel. Over the years, she has traveled to many places, including Alaska, the United States, and Spain, not to mention back to the Netherlands! Again, a big global hug would mean so much to Anneke. I myself live far away from her, and would love to bless her in this way.”
